Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 100
Chapter 4: Encounter at the Maritime City of Liberta (Part 1)
100. Mari-nee and promotion movie
After the modest but heartfelt celebration had ended, it was a few days later in the real world.
Even as July began, the signs of the rainy season still lingered, and the unsettled weather persisted.
However, on days when it didn’t rain and I went for a walk, the temperature rose, and the greenery grew denser.
There was a sense of anticipation in the air, as if waiting eagerly for the intense summer sunlight to come, or perhaps as if challenging it to come forth with all its might.
Summer was already looming right ahead.
One afternoon, feeling the arrival of such summer, I sat on the sofa in the living room with my siblings.
To be precise, I was somewhat forcibly seated by my siblings.
In front of us was a large screen display mounted on the wall.
On the display was the official website of Mebius World Online.
Normally, the website would show information introducing the game, but now a number was displayed in the center of the screen.
And that number was steadily decreasing as time passed.
Above the frame of the number was written in large letters, <Countdown to the Release of the Promotion Movie for the Second Wave.>
My siblings seemed impatient, hoping the number would decrease faster, but I felt as if I were being slowly led up the stairs to the guillotine.
Unconsciously, my right hand rubbed my stomach.
There are no holes or hollows, right?
And finally, when the number on the screen reached single digits,
“”3, 2, 1, 0!!””
My siblings chorused as they read out the last number, and the screen went dark.
First appeared the ominous figure of Nemesis.
Nemesis displayed overwhelming power, trampling the adventurers who surged forth.
Facing Nemesis, who kept standing up no matter how many times she was knocked down, was Maria.
Behind Maria were Estelle, who looked worried, the children of the church, and the people of Eden.
As Maria staggered to her feet, memories of past events flashed before her in sepia-toned images.
Encounters with Estelle and the children, the first battle with the Named Monsters, entrusted to Nero, and the enjoyable dinner surrounded by the aroma of roasted boar.
The expanding bonds, Nero lively with the power gained from class change, riding on the back of her new family member, Kuuga, Maria galloping across the plains with a content expression.
At this point, the perspective shifts to Nemesis.
The atrocities committed by adventurers in the second city.
A wife who lost her husband to violence, a young man injured by his lover, an elderly man whose shop was destroyed.
The rising anger and sadness of the residents, and their grudges…
They all appear alongside dark images.
As Nemesis’s path and Maria’s path are portrayed in images, the screen is divided into Nemesis and Maria, and their respective images converge towards each other.
And then they clash once again.
Both harbor emotions.
But there is a decisive difference between the two.
While Nemesis is alone, Maria has a family in Nero and Kuuga, comrades who support her back and fight alongside her.
With Estelle’s efforts sealing Nemesis’s attacks, adventurers with the same aspirations join in, and in response, the residents also participate in the battle, overwhelming Nemesis.
And finally, after the fierce battle, the end comes.
As Nemesis disappears into the light, cheers erupt.
There is no distinction between residents and adventurers.
The bonds that transcend the world they inhabit are there.
And amidst the celebration of valor, a night banquet unfolds.
In the midst of the banquet, Maria thinks of the created Nemesis and silently prays for peace to come to its soul as she gazes up at the night sky…
This is an overview of the released promotion movie.
By the way, the background music was an original piece created with orchestra, making it feel like watching a movie.
And there was actually another reason it felt like a movie.
“This is a promotion movie, right? But isn’t it strange that the runtime is thirty minutes?”
As far as I know, promotion movies are usually as long as TV commercials, about one minute or maybe two minutes at most.
“What are you talking about, Onee-can! Thirty minutes was barely enough to convey your feats and charms!!”
“By the way, Mari-nee, this is apparently the shortest version.”
“This is the shortest!? …By the way, what about the other versions?”
I immediately regretted asking.
“…Two hours. There’s an Eden version, a Royal Capital version, and a compilation of both. If you watch them all, it’ll take six hours. Oh, and adding the one you just watched, it’s six and a half hours.”
“What?!”
I was speechless.
Two hours for one, it’s not even a promotion movie anymore, is it?
Certainly, I said it was okay to double the scenes for introducing Sawa-san, but isn’t it strange to make a total of six and a half hours of footage?!
I hadn’t confirmed how long each scene was, but… normally, isn’t one scene just a few seconds?
“By the way, this was also uploaded to famous video sites simultaneously with the official website. The number of viewers there…”
I didn’t miss the slight twitch on Masato’s face as he operated his phone.
Understanding everything, I stopped asking Masato for more information.
Because if I were told the undeniable results, I felt like I wouldn’t be able to recover.
After that, I was forcibly made to watch the remaining three parts by Maki, and by the time it got dark, more than half of my soul had already left me.
Even though there was a payment for letting Sawa-san into the company, I’ll hold a grudge against you, Yuuki-san…
Completely worn out, I didn’t log into Mebius that day and went to sleep.
And the next day, when I heard from Maki how many times the promotion movie had been played, my soul soared high into the sky…
