Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 170
170. Mari-nee and the usual taste and promises
After that, I decided to return home with Estelle-san as my guide.
The King and Zela-san, however, stayed behind in the grand cathedral, as they still had matters to attend to.
On the way, Estelle-san was in high spirits, occasionally humming a tune.
It seemed she was particularly pleased with my class change—or rather, with my new job title.
Personally, I’m still hoping Zagreus-san might consider changing it, even now.
When we stepped out of the small room at home, it was already past noon.
Today’s portion of cassoulet had already sold out, and there were no customers left in the dining area.
Instead, I saw Retya-san and Ryle washing dishes and cleaning up.
They usually have their lunch after finishing up those tasks.
“I usually have them eat the pre-made food, but since we have some time, I think I’ll cook something.”
Thanks to the spices and seasonings from Yamato, I’ve been able to expand my cooking repertoire significantly.
There were still some ingredients left over from the last time I went out to level up.
“I’ll use chicken as the main ingredient, and for the vegetables…”
Muttering to myself, I began forming an image of the dish and started taking out the ingredients.
As I was about to start cooking, I noticed Estelle-san hesitantly looking my way.
Does she want to talk? Or maybe she wants me to talk to her?
Upon closer inspection, I saw her eyes darting between me and the ingredients.
That alone was enough for me to understand her intentions.
“Estelle-san, if you’d like, would you help me with the cooking?”
“Yes! I’d be happy to!!”
Estelle-san’s face lit up with a bright smile at my words.
Feeling a warm sense of affection for her adorable reaction, we began cooking together.
I asked Estelle-san to shred the lettuce and carrots.
After she finished slicing the carrots, I had her rub them with salt and squeeze a little lemon juice over them.
Meanwhile, I mixed soy sauce and mirin that I had bought in Liberta, adding grated ginger, garlic, and sugar to make the sauce.
Next, I coated bite-sized pieces of chicken in flour, cooked them in an oiled frying pan, and once they were done, I coated them in the sauce and let it simmer.
Once everything was ready, we stuffed it all into bread, completing the chicken teriyaki sandwiches.
We made a bit more than usual, so I set the sandwiches on the table and called Retya-san, Ryle, and Roulette-san, who had been working in the separate building, to join us for lunch.
While the flavor was familiar to me and Roulette-san, I wondered how Retya-san and the others would find it.
“This sweet and savory chicken is something I’ve never had before, but it’s absolutely delicious.”
“The lemony carrots add a refreshing touch, making it easy to keep eating.”
“…”
Retya-san shared her thoughts, followed by Estelle-san’s comment, while Ryle continued eating quietly.
It seemed they enjoyed it.
As I felt relieved, my eyes met with Roulette-san’s, and she smiled at me.
Without her glasses, that smile seemed even more charming than before.
“By the way, Roulette-san, I successfully completed my class change.”
“Whaaat! That was so fast, I’m really surprised… Congratulations!!”
“Thank you. It’s all thanks to the King, Estelle-san, and Zela-san, who once praised Nero.”
When I recounted what had happened there, Roulette-san thoughtfully remarked, ‘The power of connections… It’s very fitting for you, Maria-san.’
She might have been reminiscing about what happened in that village.
“What about Kanna-san and Mareus-san? How are they doing?”
“They’re currently outside the royal capital. It seems it’ll take both of them some time to complete their class changes.”
Though the circumstances were unusual, it seems I might be an exception for having completed my class change so quickly.
After all, it wasn’t easy even for Roulette-san.
“But there’s no need to worry, they didn’t become the top producers for nothing,” she said, taking a satisfied bite of her chicken teriyaki sandwich.
She was right. There might not be much I can do to help them directly.
So, at the very least, I resolved to welcome them back with comforting meals when they return.
With that quiet determination, I took a bite of my sandwich—and then I noticed.
Through the small gap in the door of our home, I could see Simon-san peering intently at us.
He seemed to be reading the room, staying just outside without stepping in.
Still, his eyes kept lingering on us, as if hoping someone would invite him over.
This situation felt eerily familiar, like I’d seen it before…
I started to feel uneasy, predicting what might happen next. I hesitated, but guilt soon overpowered my attempt to ignore him.
When I called out to him, he asked about the smell, and I ended up offering him some food.
The moment Simon-san took a bite, his eyes widened in shock, and he let out a triumphant roar: “This is delicious!”
His voice carried far, and many people in the capital city heard it.
As a result, a crowd once again flocked to our home, and due to the overwhelming demand, we decided to serve the chicken teriyaki sandwiches in the dining hall…
