Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 171
171. Mari-nee and Everyone’s Strengths
A week passed by in a flurry of activity, thanks to the unexpected addition of a new menu item. Just as things were finally settling down and the flow of service was established, Kanna-san and Mareus-san returned to the home base.
“Yo, long time no see… You look pretty worn out.”
“Mari-chan, are you okay? You look like you’ve been forced to cook a massive amount of food and are completely drained.”
As expected of Kanna-san, who’s been on the other side of forcing such situations…
I pulled myself up from the counter where I had collapsed and straightened up to face them.
Both of them had clear, refreshed expressions, quite different from when they were mindlessly fighting under Roulette-san’s supervision to level up.
“Welcome back. From the looks of it, you both successfully changed classes, right?”
They both responded by giving me a big thumbs-up.
“It took a bit longer than we expected, but we managed. How about you, Mari-chan?”
“Thanks to everyone, I managed to class-change too… I mean, I had to.”
“Congratulations! But your voice got a bit quiet at the end there—I didn’t quite catch that last part.”
“Please, don’t worry about it.”
I avoided their gazes, staring off into the distance and replying in clipped speech.
It seems that the job title still has quite an effect on me, given my subconscious reaction.
“Well, with this, everyone in the clan has successfully class-changed. Let’s get together with Roulette and exchange some information.”
“Sounds great! I’ve been curious about everyone’s new jobs too.”
“You just got back, though—aren’t you tired? We could do this some other time…”
I tried to resist, but my efforts were futile against their enthusiasm.
Kanna-san grabbed my arm, and I was practically dragged off to the detached building where Roulette-san was waiting.
When we arrived, Roulette-san, who had been busy with some tasks, quickly noticed the situation upon seeing Kanna-san and Mareus-san. She immediately congratulated them with a warm “Congrats!”
“Thanks, Roulette-chan. We thought it’d be a good idea to share our new job classes with everyone.”
“I’m all for it. I’m curious to know as well.”
Roulette-san stopped what she was doing and swiftly cleaned up the center of the floor.
In the meantime, Mareus-san set up the round stools that had been placed against the wall, and Kanna-san closed the door behind her.
I’m sure she didn’t mean anything by it, but it felt like my escape route had been cut off.
Once everyone was seated, Roulette-san started the conversation.
“You probably already know, but I’ll go first. My new job class is True Raksasha. It allows me to use even greater power than before without going berserk. I’ve got one more surprise in store, but I’ll keep that for later.”
Everyone was unfazed, probably because we had already witnessed her strength during our leveling-up sessions. However, Mareus-san flinched slightly at the mention of a “surprise,” possibly recalling the experience of facing her in her Queen of Chaosmode.
Don’t worry—she’s returned those glasses to that person. Everything should be fine… probably… hopefully…
I hesitated to make any definitive statements, remembering Roulette-san’s merciless leveling regimen.
“Next up is me. My class change resulted in the job Death Whisper*!” (TLN *?? The kanji literally tl-ed as Kindling fire and doctrine or deep faith, the word shikyou could mean death, the furigana that exist in raw mean bishop, Confused? Me too! Could be changed in the future)
“If you were a priest before, wouldn’t the usual progression be bishop?”
“Good point, Mareus-chan. The kanji for ‘shikyo’ may look beautiful, but it means something like ‘intense’ or ‘fierce,’ which doesn’t really suit someone as calm as me, right?”
Everyone avoided her gaze, not daring to agree out loud. No one had the courage to say, “You’re not wrong.”
Roulette-san tactfully shifted the conversation to Kanna-san’s newly acquired skills. It seemed that her new abilities allowed for greater healing and even boosted the recipient’s stats in proportion to the amount of healing done. Although the effects were temporary, the stat boost was significant enough to make Mareus-san visibly uneasy.
“My job is Sacrificial Knight. I can take on the wear and tear of my allies’ equipment and use a skill for quick repairs. It’s not the best for a tank, but with Kanna around, we should manage. But there’s another advantage. My repair skill can be used on equipment, meaning…”
A light bulb went off in my head.
“You mean it could work on Gils and Vel too?”
“I haven’t tested it yet, but probably.”
Mareus-san grinned, a sense of pride in his expression.
Given that Gils and Vel have limited repair options, this would be incredibly valuable.
I wasn’t the only one who felt that way—both Kanna-san and Roulette-san praised Mareus-san enthusiastically.
Usually, Mareus-san’s role is more comedic, but today, he seemed like a different person, shining with newfound respect.
“And finally, Mari, you’re up.”
My turn had finally come, and I could feel the light fading from my eyes.
There was no option to stay silent under their expectant gazes.
I took a deep breath and, recalling the moment I’d informed the kings, finally spoke…
“”Pfft!””
They both burst out laughing, exactly as I had expected.
It’s fine. I’m used to being laughed at by now.
But I couldn’t help feeling a little bitter, so I decided to share what Zela-san had told me only with Roulette-san, the one person who hadn’t laughed.
“Are you serious!?” Roulette-san’s voice shot up in surprise.
Kanna-san and Mareus-san, their laughter abruptly cut off, turned their attention to me with curiosity.
When they asked what it was about, I simply smiled at them and remained silent for a while.
