Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival [WN] - Chapter 177.1
Selection Ceremony 2
The Selection Ceremony had started; the invasion of the desert town of Cutlass by the Demon Army was all part of this ritual to determine the Demon King.
It was not only to expose Camille, the son of the Demon Lord, but also to start a war in which the Demons put themselves in a position where they had to decide who would lead them.
As annoying as it sounds, the Demons’ resentment was that deep. But since I, as a human, did not refuse to join, and some of them even accepted humans like Camille’s mother, I felt that it was more of a hatred against the Holy Church and those who follow it, than a resentment against the humans.
“…Phew.”
I finally exhale as I move away from the enemies I’ve eradicated.
One of the side passages was hidden by a “wall” and led to another passage, and the “smell” and “sound” of monsters made them anxious, so I placed the Trap “hall” in front of the pit.
As expected, other clans were monitoring us, since we only knew the regular entrance to the dungeon. Twenty raiders seemed like a large number, but I felt it was quite small. If all the warriors who had been designated as candidates died, the clan would lose, but it was an unspoken agreement that no one else would enter the dungeon as ambush fighters.
The ambush fighters all seemed to have assassin skills; although they were in the Rank 2 to 3 range, that many would be enough to pose a threat to the advancing Camille.
In this situation where I should have conserved my physical and magical strength, but I had to weigh my physical and magic strength and used a strategy of consuming a large amount of magical power. I would not choose any means. The reason I went out of my way to stay away from Camille and the others and act alone was because I thought we could not win by being passive.
We have little information about the dungeon and could not set up a large scale trap. That was why I moved to find out information about the enemy and eliminate the danger to Camille and the others who were ahead of me. And in some cases, they were prepared to use themselves as decoys.
“…It’s going to be a long-term battle.”
I doubt it would be settled in a week or two. But we couldn’t rely on the clans for food and other necessities, so we would have to think about robbing the enemy.
The first step would be to gather information.
We have not been prepared for a lot of things because we started without a plan. We only had the bare minimum of food, weapons, medicine, information on how to avoid monsters and labyrinths, etc.
If necessary, I would take them from the enemy and give them to Camille and the others. Then, it was up to me to exterminate the enemy with as little physical exertion as possible.
On the first day, I decided to investigate the interior of the dungeon.
The dungeon had multiple entrances, making it a complex maze of only ten levels. The width of the paths differed from one entrance to the next, and the angles of the turns were different. If I continued on a gentle descent, before I knew it I was descending to a lower floor, and if I looked up I could see another passageway on top of a high wall.
