Otome Game no Heroine de Saikyou Survival [WN] - Chapter 186.1
Selection Ceremony 9 The First Part of Three
“…What?”
One of the warriors of the Great Demon Clan looked up at the ceiling of the dungeon with a faint feeling of discomfort.
“Chao-dono, is something wrong?”
“…No.”
At the words of one of his men, Chao slowly shook his head, despite being wary of something.
The Great Demon Clan were Warriors. They were the embodiment of strength among the Demons, and they trained themselves by believing only in strength, as if it was their faith.
However, there was a downside to this. The warriors chosen for this selection ceremony were originally the people of a smaller clan that had been annexed, and although Chao followed the orders of Doehill, who had defeated him and acknowledged Doehill’s superiority, he always aimed to surpass him.
In this [selection ceremony], the warriors did not work alongside Doehill, but only with their own forces that had joined them in the dungeon, hoping to be crowned Demon King themselves.
A group of warriors would only become a target of other clans if they moved in small numbers. However, only the Great Demon Clan would be able to do so.
The strength of the warriors themselves contributed to this, but the bonds they formed with their subordinates, who could be called their family, and the high level of skill of the clan as a whole made it possible for the warriors to act in small units.
Even if they were attacked, they would easily defeat ordinary warriors and raiding parties. Knowing this, the raiding parties of the other clans were cautious when approaching them, but there was one who did not care about this.
“Chao-dono, that!”
One of the men, a near-elderly man, spotted a fallen figure ahead of him in the aisle.
“What clan is it? A demon? Or is it a member of the army?”
“Perhaps it is a demon clan. But this…”
The stench of blood was so strong that even those who had fought in the past were frowning.
The fallen were all Demon Dark Elves, and although there were only about six of them within sight, all of them had either been killed with a single stab to a vital spot or were in agony, as if they had been poisoned.
“Master Chao, this man is still moving.”
A young Demon, who was examining the bodies, found the man lying in the back and shouted.
“Mm…”
Hearing this, Chao thought that his blood had flowed too much that he would also soon die and that there might still be enemies nearby, so he stepped forward to ask who had defeated him, but the older warrior laughed and stopped him.
“Leave it to me, Mister Chao! I am good at this kind of torture since the war of the humans.”
Chao let out a sigh and smiled at the words of the old warrior, who had probably been alive for more than four hundred years and had been sent to war since Chao was a child.
“Don’t overdo it.”
“Leave it to me!”
The old warrior was more determined than necessary to make Chao, not Grand Clan Chief Doehill, the Demon King, since the [selection ceremony] had started while he was still alive.
Chao thought he was overthinking the “bad feeling” he had felt earlier, like a thinly spread murderous intent in the atmosphere, but he decided to leave it to his trusted subordinates.
“Hahaha, if you talk without giving me any trouble, I’ll kill you with ease!”
“—-“
The old warrior kicked at the scar that had gouged out the Demon’s chest, and the moment he heard the barbaric voice and saw the slightest stirring–
Boom! and the wound exploded, and what looked like shards of a shattered weapon scattered.
“–Gyaaaahhhh!”
The old warrior, who was hit in the face by the shrapnel up close, died instantly and collapsed, while the other subordinate screamed when they were hit in the face and limbs by the shrapnel.
Just as Chao and the other subordinates were about to react, a slender figure jumped out from behind a large corpse and fired an arrow that pierced through the eyes and brain of the subordinate who was about to approach.
