Third Outer World Story Series: Pumpkin Sorcerer - Chapter 6

“This is perfect.”
It has been more than ten days since the egg-shaped boulder was designated as his base of operations.
In the daytime, while hunting animals and sucking their blood to augment himself, he collected objects that emitted phosphorescent light and items that could be used as materials for the base. As for the night, he not only rested, but also practiced manipulating the phosphorescent light, researched ways to utilize the objects he had amassed, and engaged in a trial-and-error process to set up his base of operations.
“Well, for my first time, the results are rather…”
And today, the prototype base that has been established was before his very eyes.
“For my first time, the results are…”
The base was constructed of logs that were put together to form a tent-like structure and secured with plant vines.
“For my first time…”
This was his first base, which he built with his own body and limited knowledge.
“Ah, yeah… it is after all a ragged base no matter how many times I look at it…”
To be blunt, it was a shambles.
While it may serve to shelter him from the wind and rain, it was so fragile that it seemed likely to be blown apart if the wind and rain rose too strongly.
Ugh. If only I had at least one knife, I would have the assurance to construct something a little more decent… I knew there is no such thing as a reincarnation cheat after all… Isn’t this outcome inevitable given that I am a pumpkin now!!
“Well, building it up like this was good training for me, and next time I’ll improve my body so that I can build a more proper house.”
With that said, he poured his spirit into his hands to boost the strength and firmness of the vines by gathering phosphorescent light.
He had progressed to the point where his vines could snap an ordinary tree with repeated strikes and breach the defensive capabilities of a boar’s hide.
He may have been able to reach this level of augmentation due to his constant daily efforts to accumulate phosphorescent light and combat the boars and other animals in the forest.
His adaptability to life and ability to learn from his experiences paid off.
Furthermore, there was a technique to reinforce a single vine to create a cone-like structure, but this technique was not yet sufficiently powerful, thus it could only be utilized when dealing in combat on vulnerable areas such as the eyes, or in situations where time was not of the essence.
Should it be possible to drill holes in wood with this technique, it would be an excellent method to undertake many types of processing.
While maintaining the state of having strengthened his whole body, he temporarily created his legs and began to do radio calisthenics that he vaguely recalled.
The sight of a pumpkin performing exercises in front of an enormous egg-shaped boulder may strike some as the ultimate surrealist scene, but radio calisthenics was terrific. Every muscle in the body will be mobilized, which would lead to more efficiency in training.
In addition, it was not a wonder that he has been soliloquizing a lot. After all, there was none he could speak to.
Occasionally there was a village elderly man who seemed to be a hunter coming into the forest, but based on his initial reaction when he caught sight of the carcass of an animal that had been killed by him, he was sure that the man would attack him if he revealed himself to him.
In short, being alone was to blame for the solitary conversation, the nocturnal darkness, and the radio calisthenics!
“Okay, I’m done with the radio calisthenics.”
And so, having finished the dance while contemplating, it was time to set out on today’s exploration.
He has learned in the past few days that this body can survive only by receiving water, sunlight, as well as some nutrients from the soil thus it was termed an exploration rather than a hunt.
Therefore, he will only hunt whenever he encounters an animal that looks like it may attack him, and his priority has basically focused on acquiring phosphorescent objects and materials that he can use to set up his base of operations.
Though it still remained a mystery to him how to use the phosphorescent objects.
“I’m off then. Hyulololo…”
And he prayed to the egg-shaped boulder for some reason before flying off into the forest.
“Mmm, it’s you again.”
While exploring the forest, a boar appeared in front of him.
Having encountered this boar several times over the past few days, it was clear that this boar was exceptionally vindictive, and once it became aware of him as a target, it had the vicious temperament of pursuing him irrespective of how far he fled.
For this reason, after encountering it once, there was no other alternative but to defeat it.
“Kukuku… but I am not that weak to be hunted by you right now!”
He concentrated all of his strength into his body, amplifying it and accumulating the phosphorescence in the palm of his hand before grasping it.
The boar exhibited a smidgeon of hesitancy, as though sensing his heightened presence. However, it soon cast off its hesitation and rushed forward, while still paying attention to his hand.
But he avoided the boar by flying to the side and aiming his palm at the side of the boar’s stomach.
“Feast on this!”
He then released the phosphorescence gathered in the palm of his hand. A gust of wind was then generated, which struck the boar in the side, sending it staggering.
The name of this technique would be called [Gust Blow]!
While its current power only amounted to less than the force of one of his punches, and it could only be fired a few times a day, it was nevertheless a technique mastered by him, which was potent enough to strike an opponent in a vital spot and gradually knock them out cold!
Is the effect subtle?
The boar in front of him looked exasperated, possibly because of the inexplicable blow inflicted on it, and it had the appearance of charging at him at any moment.
To be frank, the role of [Gust Blow] is to restrain the boar, so it is fulfilling its purpose well enough.
The boar started ramming towards him.
But its movement was slightly sluggish compared to earlier, presumably caused by the damage from [Gust Blow].
“Once your composure is lost, it’s my victory!”
Seizing this opportunity, he entangled a vine in one of the boar’s legs and jerked it violently, overturning the boar.
And then mounting the fallen boar, he thrust the reinforced vine towards its eyes, draining all its blood in one swift motion until it died.
“Fufufu. It is a perfect triumph for me.”
He removed the boar’s tusks and brought its entire body back to the base after ascertaining that it was indeed dead.
As for what to do with the boar’s carcass, he has recently devised a use for it aside from its phosphorescent parts, so he planned to make use of its body.
After that, he flew over the forest and returned to his base smoothly.
[i] In simple terms, it is doing an exercise while listening to radio
