Rays-sama’s Secret Warehouses

 

“Roa, there’s something I want to show you, so stay behind. The others can leave.”

 

Rays-sama said, after explaining the danger of the pressure igniter to me.

 

Pressure igniter was a tool created in a time of peace in my past life, so it was nothing but a convenient tool to start a fire. But we were currently in wartime. In wartime, an easy yet unnoticeable way to start a fire was a dangerous thing.

 

Fire was very effective in confusing opponents in fortresses, towns, and other places. But currently, you could only start a fire using a flint. Naturally, a flint made a loud noise and stood out, so it was easy to prevent it from happening.

 

But the pressure igniter didn’t make a lot of noise and was small enough to be kept in a pocket.

 

Pressure igniters were not widely recognized now, but in the future, if the use of this tool became more widespread, an enemy spy might be able to get hold of one. If that happened, the pressure igniter would become a very dangerous tool.

 

I was told, “If it’s just that one, there’s no problem for you to keep it since other people won’t know how to use it.”

 

In the end, I was allowed to keep the prototype, but the making of a new pressure ignitor would be thoroughly controlled, or so I was told.

 

When I looked next to me while nodding at Rays-sama’s words, I saw that Nelfia and Sazabi, who must have thought of that type of use from the beginning, looked like they really wanted it.

 

In any case, the others left, leaving only me, Drew, Lapilia-sama, and Grantz-sama…why was Drew also here?

 

Rays-sama glared at Drew, but she just nonchalantly asked him, “We’re going to that warehouse, right? Let me come too! I haven’t visited that place in ages!”

 

Rays-sama frowned a little, then replied lazily, “Do whatever you want.”

 

When Grantz-sama realized that our conversation was over, he said, “Okay, I’ll bring the horses,” and Reyes-sama said, “No, I’ll go too. It’s faster that way anyway.”

 

In the end, the five of us, Rays-sama, Grantz-sama, Lapilia-sama, me, and Drew, decided to head to the stable together. 

 

As we were walking, I turned to Drew and asked, “Can you ride a horse?”

 

“I can’t, though? I’ll ride with you, Roa,” she replied, with a tone as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

 

Well, that’s fine for me though. Anyway, I wonder where we would be going?

 

As soon as we arrived at the stable, the stableboy noticed Rays-sama and rushed over. In the blink of an eye, each of us had our personal horses prepared, and with Grantz-sama leading us, we left Rudektrad

After leaving the capital and riding north for a while, a large mansion on top of a small hill came into view. A wall surrounded the mansion, making it look like a small fortress.

 

“Isn’t that…”

 

“This is Rays-sama’s territory, and that’s Rays-sama’s mansion!” 

Lapilia-sama said proudly. 

 

Why were you proud!?

 

“Because I’m busy I don’t go home very often,” Rays-sama said with a wry smile, but I feel like it would be a waste not to return to such a fine home.

 

As we continued onward while I was thinking of such things, the gate was opened and a servant came out. Maybe they noticed that we were approaching.

 

“Hey, Kindall. Good work as always.” (Rays)

 

“Welcome back, Rays-sama. It’s been three days since your last return. Are you eating properly? Are you getting enough rest?” (Kindall)

 

“I’m eating and resting properly, don’t worry.” (Rays)

 

“Grantz-sama and Lapilia-sama, you both are also here. If I remember correctly, you are Drew-sama, correct? And you are…?”

 

“This man is Roa, this is his first time coming here.” (Rays)

 

“I see. Greetings. I am the butler of this mansion, Kindall. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

 

Kindall fluidly bowed towards me.

 

“Ah, yes. The pleasure is mine.” I hastily returned his greeting.

 

“So, will you be having dinner tonight? If yes, I’ll prepare it right away, so please have some tea while waiting.”

 

“No, I’m going to the ‘lab’.”

 

“If that is the case, I’ll take care of your horses. I’ll also bring you some tea later.” (Kindall)

At Kindall-san’s signal, several servants came and took the horses from us.

 

“Follow me.” (Rays)

 

After I followed Rays-sama, I found that next to the large mansion were warehouses that were as big as the mansion itself.

Inside the warehouse were various weapons and tools. Finally, my question was answered, so I couldn’t help but whisper, “So they are here…”

 

“That’s an interesting comment,” Rays-sama said

“Well, when I saw the 10th Division’s armory, I’ve always wondered. From what I read, the 10th Division used a variety of tools to create an advantage on the battlefield, but the armory contained only normal weapons.”

 

“Ah, so that’s why, you acted a bit strange the first time I showed the armory to you,” Grantz-sama said.

 

“Yes. For example, this is a disassembled catapult, right? It was used in the Third Defense War against the Empire. This is really amazing. I’ve been thinking this must have been hidden somewhere, but it turned out it’s here.”

 

“I wasn’t planning to hide it or anything. There’s just not enough space to store it. Well, there are other reasons too though” said Rays-sama.

 

As I was looking around at the various tools in the warehouse, Rays-sama brought a piece of parchment.

 

“Here is a list of items in the warehouses. In addition to weapons, there are also various Drew’s inventions here. I stored them because I think they might be useful someday, so if you think you can use those inventions for something, tell me.”

 

Wait, did he mean I could use the things here?

 

“Is this really fine?”

 

“Yeah, but, in exchange…no, not really in exchange but anyway, if you come up with something again, tell it to me first before you make anything. Was it…pressure igniter? If stuff like that appeared every day my heart might stop.”

 

When he said that, everyone else laughed.

 

I laughed bitterly, too, while thinking how come Drew was the one laughing the loudest.
