Reincarnated into a Game as the Hero’s Friend - Chapter 220.3
“With you holding the fort here and managing everything properly, it is easy to see why the Hero party was allowed to travel like this to defeat the Demon King. If you were not here, I don’t think the Heroes would have peace of mind and would be able to leave the country without any worries, right? Also, there is a rumor that when someone speaks bad about you, the Hero raises his voice to complain, which makes the people pale in fear.” (Rafed)
“I’m glad that they are grateful for what I do, but that makes my back itch.” (Welner)
“Mazell also mentioned something similar about how you would react to hearing this. Mazell’s a little off his game when it comes to dealing with other people. Also, he usually doesn’t even care about his reputation after all but he certainly sees you in a different light.” (Rafed)
But being confronted by a furious Mazell would shorten my lifespan.
“After that, I also heard that Mister Luguentz wished to witness the strength of the Hero who fought against the demon army, but ended up only facing Mister Felix and getting defeated but still won’t shut up and challenged the Hero directly.” (Rafed)
“I’m starting to feel sorry for those who challenge the Heroes.” (Welner)
What a sore loser who couldn’t accept the results of his actions. Did he really think he stood a chance against the heroes’ party?
I was wondering if they felt their positions were looked down upon, but from my point of view, they were simply mob characters. Even I was not confident enough to say that I could beat Felix in a one-on-one fight.
My back was really starting to itch after hearing all this, so let’s change the subject.
“What else are they talking about me?” (Welner)
“There is a rumor circulating that the Viscount is a potential fiancée of the saint Laura-sama. I also heard that church officials in other countries are scrambling to find a way to get a message to the Viscount.” (Rafed)
“Is that still a topic of conversation…wait, is that a recent rumor?” (Welner)
“I’m afraid so.” (Rafed)
That was strange, wasn’t it?
I was sure that the top brass of this country already knew that I had no intention of marrying Laura, and it was difficult to believe that the intelligence organizations of other countries were so incompetent that they hadn’t realized this fact yet. Then, perhaps someone was deliberately spreading that rumor.
“I’m sure the Bain kingdom side is denying it.” (Welner)
“I don’t think they are denying or confirming it.” (Rafed)
Hearing that response, I put down my cup and involuntarily started to ponder on the spot. Seeing me, Neurath called out to me from the side.
“Is something wrong?” (Neurath)
“Well, I was wondering what they were thinking this time.” (Welner)
After all, it was His Royal Highness the Crown Prince who took advantage of the duel trial to such an extent. I think he’s probably behind this rumor as well.
Although he may be taking advantage of me, he wouldn’t abandon me at least yet. I could trust him in terms of his abilities, but he’s definitely not an easy person to deal with.
If the Crown Prince was truly behind this, what would he be aiming for? First, it could be a simple way to repel Laura’s engagement proposals, but I think that’s not the main reason. Then, it might be related to Mazell.
Even after racking my brain, I couldn’t come up with any strong possibility. For now, I was going to bag all my questions, tie my mouth shut, and push them to the corner of my brain cells. In terms of priority, dealing with the current situation came first.
“Well, I have one more favor to ask you, then.” (Welner)
“Yes?” (Bierstedt)
“Regarding jewelry.” (Welner)
“Oh.” (Bierstedt)
It seemed like he misunderstood, so I explained to him what it was for. What was that disappointed look on your face?
“I am a member of the count’s family. As someone from that kind of family, we usually leave dealing with gift jewelry to the merchants connected to our house.” (Welner)
“That’s also true. I understand.” (Rafed)
I didn’t know which way he agreed with me, but I had a feeling that if I left the arrangement of the gift to Rafed without any proper instructions, it wouldn’t end well. For example, he might buy something expensive from another country under the guise of an investment.
Anyway, while making sure he didn’t go overboard, I asked him to deliver the requested items as soon as possible. It was better to get those goods delivered without revealing my direct connection to him.
