Reincarnated into a Game as the Hero’s Friend - Chapter 224.1
I was a little tired from the rush of visitors who came to give me their advice the night before, but today I was summoned by the Crown Prince early in the morning. I had to ask Neurath and Schunzel to stay at the Zeavert residence the night before.
In my previous life, I had the image that royalty was more relaxed, but I think the royalty of this country were hard workers. Thank goodness they were not a useless Royal Family.
“Make yourself comfortable. I apologize for calling you so early in the morning.” (Crown Prince)
“It is my duty.” (Welner)
Today, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Hubertus and His Excellency Prime Minister Falkenstein were in attendance. My stomach has been aching since this morning.
By the way, although the final decision-making power naturally belonged to His Majesty the King, as a whole, His Majesty and the Prime Minister dealt with issues related to foreign affairs, while the Crown Prince was responsible for internal affairs, with the Minister of War and the Minister of Civil Administration assisting him.
Duke Grunding and Grand Duke Seyfart seem even further down the ladder, in charge of the practical aspects of things. I guess titles tend to outweigh positions in this regard. Of course, there would be some differences depending on the situation.
In other words, the fact that the Prime Minister was present meant that there was some element of diplomacy involved.
“Did you hear the rumor that an envoy from the Coltrezis House has arrived?” (Crown Prince)
“I heard about it last night.” (Welner)
The messenger from the Coltrezis family arrived at the royal palace yesterday. The contents were supposed to be a secret, but by the night, it had already become a rumor in the royal capital. Some people even came to our house at night to tell us the details with a sincere attitude.
My father was a minister, so he was in a position to know the details more accurately than the rumors, but it was inevitable that there would be people who would come to tell us the information regardless of whether we knew it or not.
And the content had already spread within the capital, or rather, it felt like someone was deliberately spreading it. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have spread so quickly. The fact that the royal family went out of their way to summon me suggested that they wanted to verify information from my side regarding the situation with Coltrezis House.
“What did you think?” (Crown Prince)
“From what I have heard, I understand that negotiations are usually conducted in a strong-willed manner, but the Coltrezis’s side is being very strong-willed.” (Welner)
The conditions from the Coltrezis House’s side were extremely demanding. They demanded compensation in the form of land and privileges, starting with the unilateral position of the victim, “The royal family must take responsibility for killing our heir”.
However, what was also being talked about in the royal capital negatively was the Coltrezis House’s demand that Mazell Hearthing become a vassal of the Coltrezis House and that his younger sister Lily be married to a knight of the Coltrezis House. To be honest, I was more appalled than angry by these conditions.
In fact, it was not wrong to be strong-willed at the start of negotiations. When negotiations involving people with status and power occur, even if they score full marks at the time, the other party may hold a grudge and get back at them later. Therefore, it was basic to be strong-willed at the start and find a compromise.
The only exception to this would be if one party had no intention of negotiating from the start. In this case, it wouldn’t matter how strong-willed the other party was because the Kingdom side had every intention of using force from the start against the Coltrezis House.
However, even in the Middle Ages, local nobles were rather selfish. In the early Middle Ages, there were records of certain local lords who “violently treated the King’s emissaries and forced them to eat the king’s letters”.
Anyway, provincial nobles tended to become the boss of the mountain. But if they overdo it, the central government, which has the greatest power, gets angry, and when that happens, nobles have no choice but to become independent, start a rebellion, or beg for forgiveness.
Although Coltrezis House was acting quite strong-willed, I think they were going to find a compromise somewhere along the way.
“The royal capital was also damaged by the attack.” (Crown Prince)
I see. The Crown Prince’s words made everything clear. Before the attack on the royal capital, Coltrezis House’s eldest son died, and then after that, other nobles and their subordinates connected to the Coltrezis House’s faction were suppressed.
From the looks of it, it seemed like the Coltrezis House’s side was not properly gathering information, or perhaps should I assume that the Coltrezis House’s side wasn’t receiving accurate information instead?
“Is that with the help of High Priest Malavova and Count Yerring?” (Welner)
“That’s right.” (Crown Prince)
The Crown Prince and the Prime Minister were smiling at each other. Apparently, it was a pass.
