Hi, everyone. Please support us on Patreon (Click HERE). Thanks.

Even if we have the budget, we could not buy something if it was not on sale. So I went to Grand Duke Seyfart to ask him to lend me his large Magic Bag again. The Grand Duke was going to stay in the royal capital this time, and when I explained the situation to him the other day, he laughed at me.

“Sir, you are always having a hard time.” (Seyfart)

“I would like to be carefree if I could.” (Welner)

No, really. Just participating in a military expedition was already hard enough as it was, but this time it was even more troublesome. Why was Zeavert House the spearhead of the march?

“Moreover, we were requested to show both inside and outside the country that they can’t defeat us by brute force.” (Welner)

“It will be competitive at least. I think that’s enough.” (Seyfart)

I let out a deep sigh. In this muscle-brained world, a fight tends to take the form of a physical battle or a head-on collision. The Coltrezis House was prepared for this. I think they were expecting us to attack the forts directly from the front.

It was ironic, but it was true that Hero Mazell won his battles with brute force. So, when people talked about the royal capital defense force winning against the demon army under my command, it seemed to be misinterpreted as if I simply crushed the demon army from front without using any strategy.

That was also why Coltrezis House was perhaps expecting a head on collision.

Well, if I attacked the Coltrezis House’s forts by force, I guarantee that there would be many casualties among the knights, so I had no intention of doing this from the beginning.

All in all, I think Coltrezis House was making light of the situation and I totally intended to throw a wrench in their plans.

“I don’t need any achievements, so can’t we just say that everything up to now was someone else’s idea?”

“Only you would say such words.”

This campaign had to be a short one for both economical and political reasons.

The economic reasons were simple: Considering the tight budget of the nation, we could not afford to waste money.

As for the political reasons, it was twofold. For one, it was true that there had been an attack on the royal capital, and if we spent too much time on rooting out a local rebellion, the neighboring countries might misunderstand that we had actually suffered too much damage.

The other reason was, quite ironically, not to defeat Farlitz too overwhelming. If the Farlitz Knights were dealt a heavy blow, they might not be able to cope with an attack by the Demon Army on Farlitz, and another country might be destroyed.

As expected, the Bain kingdom did not want to go that far, so it was decided to pull back the army at a reasonable point.

“But what do you plan to do by funding a public bathhouse, Sir?” (Seyfart)

“It’s for renovation purposes. The bathhouse has been running since my grandfather’s generation, so the facilities are probably old as expected.” (Welner)

What I actually wanted was a part of that facility, so I decided to take that part in the name of repairs. Although it was not a facility that was supposed to be related to the Grand Duke, he also funded the orphanage while paying off the landowner, so there was no problem when it came to the arrangements.

(T/N Above paragraph was intentionally written vaguely by the author, so we are not sure about its implications. We will inform you guys when we have more information.)

But being the Grand Duke, he probably knew that Felix came from the orphanage and that the owner of the bathhouse also owned the land used by said orphanage. Knowing this, I played dumb.

Incidentally, the orphanage was to be financed by Zeavert House, which surprised me. My father’s explanation regarding his reason for doing so was so simple that even I laughed at it.

After being financed, the children in that orphanage would receive high quality education. This act of financing would basically secure those children as future manpower for Zeavert House.

Not only that, since we couldn’t make Mazell become a subordinate of Zeavert House, Father wouldn’t want to throw away any opportunity to leave a good impression on his companions, especially Felix.

Currently, I still spent more time teaching them simple math, but they also learnt bookkeeping and other practical things from other teachers. This education program would certainly make them a valuable asset for Zeavert House in the future.

However, to put it bluntly, the main reason behind Father’s financing the orphanage was to secure Felix.

I think it was typical of my father to consider the family’s interest and not just help people out of kindness. Still, I find him amazing as this kind of “investment” would need a long-term perspective to get results, and in the short term, the Zeavert House would surely lose money.
