- Chapter 52 - The Bleak Business of the Starving Ghost Restaurant
Jin Chen, who witnessed the whole process, was very troubled. He finally understood why the guests on the second floor only ordered vegetarian meals.
This seemingly harmless girl was no human; she was far more ferocious than the ghosts…
“Don’t serve the customers anymore. Go to the door and welcome the guests.”
For the health and safety of the restaurant’s patrons, Jin Chen had to reassign Qing Li to a different position.
“Okay, manager.”
As an excellent employee, Qing Li worked hard and obediently followed orders.
But Jin Chen felt uneasy seeing the smile on her lips, suspecting she was up to no good.
“Don’t cause any trouble,” Jin Chen instinctively warned her.
Qing Li raised an eyebrow, displeased, “Manager, are you doubting my professional ethics?”
Jin Chen: ???
Your professional ethics involve decapitating guests and gouging out their eyeballs?
[As everyone knows, the little village girl lacks professional ethics.]
[Someone who would amputate passengers’ legs on a bus is already being quite mild by working in a restaurant, for the little village girl.]
[Ah, right, right, right, the little village girl is becoming more beautiful and kind-hearted.]
[The restaurant manager should be overjoyed to have such an outstanding employee.]
Wrapped in her little cotton coat, Qing Li stood at the restaurant’s entrance in the biting cold wind, which tousled her hair. She stood there, shrinking her neck, waiting for customers.
A ghostly figure slowly approached in the darkness, bringing a chill wind.
“A human?”
The ghostly figure stopped at the restaurant’s door. His face was covered in crisscrossing knife scars, his eyes sewn shut, his ears and nose cut off, leaving only his mouth, which seemed to have been slashed by a sharp weapon, the scars extending to the roots of his ears.
He wore a blood-stained coat, holding a bloody axe in his right hand and several bloody heads in his left.
This was a red-clothed fierce ghost.
“Take these to the kitchen; I want to make spicy human heads,” the fierce ghost licked his sharp fangs.
“Sorry, dear guest, but our restaurant does not allow outside food,” Qing Li said with a smile.
The ghost’s scarred face frowned, and he muttered, “Alright, it seems I’ll have to go to another restaurant.”
He silently retreated, disappearing back into the darkness.
After a while, another ghost appeared.
This was a naked ghost, his body swollen like a balloon, suffering from severe gigantism. His wet hair clung to his scalp, adorned with a few strands of seaweed, and he emitted a stench that could rival cat feces mixed into a can of herring.
It seemed to be a water ghost.
“Human, open the door. This great one wants to enjoy dinner.”
This water ghost was not as polite as the previous ghost.
Qing Li wrinkled her nose but still smiled gently, “I’m sorry, our restaurant doesn’t serve customers who are not properly dressed.”
“What counts as properly dressed?” the water ghost asked in a cold, hoarse voice.
Qing Li replied with a smile, “At least wear some underwear.”
“Whimpering, I knew it was embarrassing to come out bare-bottomed. I won’t come out again.”
The water ghost turned and left with a wail.
The pale buttocks were quite dazzling in the night.
The third ghost…
“I’m sorry, our restaurant doesn’t serve customers who step on the stairs with their left foot first.”
The fourth ghost…
“I’m sorry, your appearance does not fit our restaurant’s service philosophy.”
Jin Chen, who was in the lobby, was puzzled. It was the peak dining hour, yet there were no customers.
He went to the restaurant entrance with a cold face and finally found the culprit.
“Qing—Li”
Jin Chen ground his teeth as he spoke a human name for the first time.
He squeezed these words through his teeth, wishing he could just swallow Qing Li whole and bite her to death.
“Manager, do you have any instructions?” Qing Li tilted her head, her bright eyes clear and innocent.
Jin Chen pressed his brow again, and finally said the words: “You—are—fired.”
This human, just roll back to where she came from!
Seeing the village girl finally fired, the livestream audience laughed.
?The village girl never expected that she would fail her first mission by getting fired by a ghost.?
?The mission was to work in the restaurant for three days, but the village girl couldn’t even last one day. Will her legend be broken??
?She had to be fired. If the village girl stayed one more day, the restaurant would go bankrupt.?
“System, if I’m actively fired by the restaurant, does that count as mission failure?” Qing Li called out the system.
The system was silent: …
Even it had never encountered such a situation!
If a regular human dared to act so recklessly, they would have been sliced and fried long ago.
Finally, the system answered: “It counts as a failure.”
Receiving an answer she didn’t want to hear, Qing Li’s head drooped.
“Manager, I think you should give me another chance.”
She was so diligent, enthusiastic in service, and considerate. Being fired was a big loss for the restaurant.
“I can give you a chance, but will they?”
Jin Chen pointed to the restaurant’s customers behind him.
The ghosts immediately shook their heads: “Get this human out of here quickly.”
“With this human here, we won’t come to your restaurant anymore.”
“Choose us or her, you can only have one answer.”
“If she doesn’t leave, I will.”
The atmosphere in the restaurant abruptly changed, making Jin Chen seem like a wavering scoundrel, as the group of ghosts looked at him with resentful and indignant eyes.
At this moment, Qing Li considerately said, “Manager, you don’t have to be troubled.”
Jin Chen’s furrowed brows relaxed, thinking this girl would choose to leave on her own.
But the next moment…
Qing Li smashed the restaurant’s glass door with a slap, her young face showing fierceness. Hands on her hips, she said: “If you want to leave, then scram. I’m the best employee of the restaurant. Who are you to compare with me? Even without you, there will be other customers. You actually think the manager would fire his best subordinate because of you insignificant ghosts. How delusional.”
With the door gone, cold wind rushed into the restaurant.
Jin Chen stood in the cold wind, alone and disheveled…
This restaurant, just close down!
“Hah, I’ll leave if I want to.”
“What a trashy restaurant, I’m never coming back.”
“If this restaurant doesn’t close down tomorrow, I’ll look down on you dead ghosts.”
The ghosts left, cursing and swearing.
In the end, only a few ghost employees and Qing Li and a few other players remained in the restaurant.
“You… you must be sent by the heavens to shorten my life!”
Jin Chen clutched his chest, never imagining that his stopped heart could one day ache from anger.
“Manager, since the customers have left, can we clock out now?”
Qing Li blinked her innocent eyes, her tender face looking naive and cute.
Jin Chen: “…”
Clock out? Just file for bankruptcy!
